The world is witnessing a rapid shift toward an aging population, driven by longer life expectancy and lower birth rates. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people aged 60 and over is expected to double to around 2.1 billion by 2050. This global trend poses both challenges and opportunities for innovation in healthcare, social systems, and the economy.

To address this issue, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), through its Aging Society Working Group, has partnered with two major Asian technology companies—Fujitsu and Acer.

Beyond introducing specialized exercise programs for seniors aimed at preventing frailty and dementia, FIG is also backing Fujitsu and Acer in developing a smart application designed to detect early signs of physical disorders among the elderly.

“This effort seeks to prevent the deterioration of elderly health conditions and help lower healthcare expenses,” said FIG President Morinari Watanabe at a press conference on Friday, October 24, 2025.

The President of the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation (FGI) and Chair of FIG’s Aging Society Working Group, Ita Yuliati, explained that FIG has developed several initiatives to create a more senior-friendly environment through the lens of gymnastics.

According to Ita, the collaboration with Acer and Fujitsu will utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze user data, and the results will later be accessible via smartphone.

“With the growing global elderly population, we aim to support older adults in becoming stronger, more balanced, and healthier as they age,” Ita said.

She added that the initiative aligns with the Indonesian government’s vision.

“Our President, Mr. Prabowo, has introduced a national health program called Indonesia Sehat (Healthy Indonesia), which focuses not only on children but also on senior citizens,” Ita noted.

Acer Medical Chairman & CEO Allen Lien shared that the partnership was inspired by the gymnastics judging system, which evaluates athletes based on their movement analysis.

“Following FIG’s recommendation, we developed a mobile app that monitors users’ movements. The AI then gives feedback with either a green or red light. A red signal means you should get more exercise or consult a doctor,” Lien explained.

Naoko Otsuka, EVP of Fujitsu Global Solutions Business Group, said Fujitsu’s mission is to build a more sustainable world by fostering trust and driving innovation.

Sharing FIG’s commitment to improving elderly health, Otsuka emphasized Fujitsu’s pride in continuing its collaboration with Acer to create a healthier global community through AI that empowers individuals.

“We aim to contribute to a society where everyone can live in good health,” Otsuka concluded.
