Indonesian Gymnastics Federation President Ita Yuliati expressed her appreciation for the support of all parties for the development of gymnastics in the country. With solid synergy, the hope of developing gymnastics achievements in the future is very possible.
One of the events was a talent search held on the sidelines of the 53rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. A total of 20 athletes, both male and female, participated in the event, supervised directly by representatives of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
The talent search for Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) and Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) athletes was held simultaneously on Thursday (October 23rd) at two locations. The women's event was held at the Indonesia Arena, and the men’s was held at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC).
"Today we're holding talent scouting, of course, to identify the potential of our young athletes. This is a great opportunity for us to conduct talent scouting because all the gymnastics experts are in Jakarta," Ita Yuliati told reporters.
"Actually, we also got this idea from the Minister (Erick Thohir) and Mr. Okto (Raja Sapta Oktohari). Ultimately, we're holding talent scouting today. Hopefully, this will reveal potential gymnasts," the former national gymnast added.
The Indonesian Gymnastics Federation will then select potential athletes from the list of 20 male and 20 female athletes. As directed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, gymnastics will be a priority sport for development.
"We are very grateful to the FIG, the coaches, and everyone who has taken the time to help us. Whether the FIG will select them for training camps abroad, for example, or something else, we'll see," Ita Yuliati said.
The event was also attended by the Chair of the WAG FIG Technical Committee, Donatella Sacchi, and Member of Men's Technical Committee FIG, Arthurs Mickevics. Their support demonstrates the importance of young Indonesian talent in the international gymnastics community.
"We are very honored to have the opportunity to see these young Indonesian athletes. This is a form of our support for the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation. It's not impossible that one day they will compete at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics," said Donatella.
"They (have potential and) are truly ready to become gymnasts in the future, so we are also talking with the coaches. I hope that some of them can compete in the Olympics or the world junior championships in the future," said Arthurs.*
